Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living. (Miriam Beard)
If you are a traveler, and not just a tourist in search of major sights, and pictures to post on social networks, you will have a better understanding of the world with each and every trip you make.
In case you are not sure how the tourist and the traveler differ, here’s a good and simple explanation – The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see. (GK Chesterton)
Great Lao Tzu said a similar thing – A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving.
One of the pleasantest things in the world is going on a journey; but I like to go by myself. (William Hazlitt)

When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road. (William Least)
The quote above can also be the reason why some people act ‘strange’ when traveling. They just feel liberated (in multiple ways).
There are drawbacks of traveling too. Traveling is the ruin of all happiness. There’s no looking at a building here after seeing Italy. (Fanny Burney)
Yes, some trips can feel so good, that we don’t want to leave ever.
If you go home after vacation and you find yourself dreading the life that you lead, reconsider what you do. All my beautiful trips live inside of me. I’m made of all adventures I’ve got immersed in. And, it may come as a surprise to some of you, but even the less than beautiful travels still come to beautify my life.
I can relive and savor all the sparkling moments when they are gone. The less pleasurable ones I don’t recall often. They simply can’t spoil my present.
I suggest you train yourself for living according to the next line – Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey! (Fitzhugh Mllan)
