Firefighters aggressively fighting blaze near Getty Center

Los Angeles firefighters are aggressively battling a fire near the Getty Center that has grown to about four acres, officials said.

Los Angeles Fire Capt. Jamie Moore said the fire is three acres to four acres and that crews are battling it on the ground and in the air.

“We have a pretty good handle on the fire,” Moore said, adding that it is heading over a ridge and creating hot spots.

“This is not a wind-driven fire, it is topography fire,” Moore said.

Moore said firefighters are already getting water on the fire with the assistance of helicopters.

The captain said there are no forced evacuation and firefighters are being positioned to protect homes in the canyons.

The blaze and smoke were expected to further slow rush-hour traffic in the already congested corridor.

The fire is burning north of Sunset Boulevard and fire crews are just arriving.  Dozens of upscale homes are directly in the fire’s path, separated from the flames by a ravine.

Getty officials have voluntarily closed and evacuated the museum complex. Portions of Sepulveda Boulevard have also been closed. (LATIMES)
