18th Street’s long standing and popular ‘ArtNights’ opens the art center to the public with our gallery receptions, concerts, and open studios by current artists in residence, including Arzu Arda Kosar. Supported by the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs Division, these free events happen every three months and treats LA to one big art party. Without a doubt, Art Nights are not the usual On a given evening, you will see work by the brightest and best of LA’s visual arts scene, hear some hot Latin Jazz or progressive rock, watch a Butoh dancer, even rub shoulders with visiting artists from Australia, Taiwan, Poland, Mexico and around the world!
Parking is available at Les Kelley Medical Center on Colorado between 19th and 20th Streets, on Olympic Blvd.

Reception and Interactive Collage Workshop

What role does psycho geography play in the coming of age process of youth, especially in a multi-centered metropolis that itself is in a constant state of flux? Arzu Arda Kosar and Gul Cagin investigate the relation between the city and its inhabitants in Coming of Age/ TransIstanbul, a project by developed as a part of the Istanbul 2010 European Cultural Capital activities.
Gul Cagin will conduct interactive collage workshops in the ghettos of Kucuk Armutlu and Kadirga Arts Center where participants will redesign their city to reflect their own needs, desires, aspirations, fantasies and biases. The workshop at Kadirga Art Center will take place during the opening reception on Saturday, April 24th, 2010 between 4pm-8pm.
Original works by the artists and the collages made during the workshops will be on display at Kadirga Arts Center until May 10, 2010. The TransIstanbul project was launched with street art such as graffiti and temporary site specific street installations in the summer of 2009 and will continue with another gallery exhibition in November 2010.
