MEDITERRANEAN DIASPORAS AND EXPATS JOIN FORCES FOR
SYRIAN REFUGEE RELIEF

In partnership with Refugees International, the 3rd Annual Mediterranean Holiday Night brings together Mediterranean cultures for a common cause.

American Turkish Association of Washington D.C. (ATA-DC), Italians in DC and United Macedonian Diaspora will host the 3rd Annual Mediterranean Holiday Night on Tuesday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Ankara Restaurant (1320 19th St NW, Washington D.C. 20036). All proceeds from the event will benefit Refugees International’s efforts on behalf of Syrian refugees.

Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict four years ago, over 12 million people have been displaced inside the country and beyond its borders. Over the past year the Mediterranean has been touched by a human tragedy as hundreds of thousands of Syrians have tried to reach Europe on a dangerous journey. With no end in sight for the fight in Syria, many of them are still unable to return their homes.

“The Mediterranean region has been the cradle of civilizations for thousands of years, a common sea for shared culture in food, drinks, music and arts. With recent tragic events the Mediterranean has turned into a border between two worlds, a crossing from violence to safety” said the event organizers. “This special night is a small contribution from Mediterranean cultures in Washington D.C., standing in solidarity with the people of Syria at a time where it seems insurmountable differences are emerging around this beautiful sea.”

“Amidst ongoing attempts to scapegoat and defame refugees, and with the worldwide number of refugees at an all-time high, it is more important than ever that we join together to protect those fleeing conflict and persecution,” said Michel Gabaudan, President of Refugees International. “Since the war in Syria began, RI has fought to ensure that humanitarian assistance is available to those displaced both inside and outside Syria. I’m thrilled to join these distinguished diaspora organizations in standing in solidarity with the people of Syria and raising awareness of the plight of refugees.”

The 3rd Annual Mediterranean Holiday Night will feature traditional cuisine and drinks from the Mediterranean cultures. Guests can also enter a raffle drawing for fun holiday prizes including wines from the region. The cover charge for #DCMedNight is $25 and guests are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance.

Partner organizations of the event include the Association of Young Serbian Professionals, the Advisory Council for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tunisian American Young Professionals, AJC ACCESS DC, Albanian Professionals in DC, Albanian American Academy, and DCSpaniards.
