Alternative sample letter (shorter version:)

DEAR FRIENDS: Let us unite today!

Please take your time to react both to CBS and the radio’s. We need to support Turkish Airlines and not let Armenians zero this deal.  Otherwise, we will not be able to make any deals in this country. CBS response took only 2 minutes:

Please feel free to write your own letter or cut and paste the one below.  Turks are continually misrepresented in the media.  The Armenians have a strong lobby in the U.S., especially California. Turks in the U.S. need to stand up for themselves.  The Armenians in the U.S. are perpetuating a lie, but the Turks are not persistent or unified in their efforts to combat these lies. Let’s work together to make a difference!

To whom it may concern:

I am a resident of Los Angeles and just saw a very disturbing segment on the local news regarding Kobe Bryant’s new affiliation with Turkish Airlines.

In this segment, CBS interviewed Armenians in Glendale who expressed concern over Kobe Bryant being the new face of Turkish Airlines, in light of their belief that the Turks committed genocide against the Armenians in the early 1900s.

I have several problems with this segment. First and most importantly, CBS failed to interview any Turks to get the other side of the story. Instead, the segment featured only interviews with Armenian Americans who fervently argued their position on television.

Further, CBS showed old clips of “thousands” of Armenians protesting in Los Angeles on the “anniversary” the so called genocide. This is misleading and blatantly biased.

Even without arguing the accuracy of the Turkish version of events or the Armenian version, the segment was irresponsible in not presenting both sides of the story.

The media most often speaks of Turkey in association with the 1915 war with Armenian.  As such, many Americans have developed false ideas about what Turks and Turkey truly represent.

The media’s representation of Turks is unfair and inaccurate.  There are over 70,000 Armenians living in Istanbul alone.  These Armenians live peacefully in Turkey.  They are members of the Turkish government and successful businessmen.

Unfortunately, the media never mentions this, nor does it mention the fact that the Armenians have assassinated Turkish diplomats in Los Angeles and across the country.

But Kobe’s affiliation with Turkish Airlines is not a political issue. As such, the Armenians in Los Angeles should not be allowed to use this as an opportunity to defame and disparage Turks.

Moreover, it should not be used to bully an athlete into rescinding his contract with a world-wide brand, just to make the point that the Armenians still hate the Turks.

Yet CBS allowed the Armenians to use the media as an instrument to continue spewing their hate and a means to persecute a world renowned athlete, who, most likely, has never even heard of the “Armenian genocide”.

Accordingly,  I strongly believe CBS was blatantly irresponsible in airing tonight’s segment.  I sincerely hope that CBS News considers these points in developing future stories.
