ATASC Fundraiser at Turkish Consul General’s House
ATASC, Association of Turkish Americans of Southern California, organized a dinner and mini concert to raise funds for ATASC activities, one of the major activities being the upcoming Children’s Day celebrations as a SC-wide picnic on April 17th.
The fundraiser was held in Los Angeles Consul General’s Residence. More than fifty ATASC community members attended the elegant dinner. Honorable Consul General Hakan Tekin welcomed the crowd and talked about the importance of being a Turkish American in SC and the mutual support.
Then ATASC President Vega Sankur thanked Mr. and Mrs. Tekin for their efforts in hosting this affair. She also thanked the attendee’s for their support of ATASC activities, and to Hafize Turgut and Burcu Tansu for organizing this event.
The star of the night was Turkish author, poet, composer, singer Ms. Yasemin Kumral Simsek. Yasemin Kumral -in addition to being a famous artist -has also been a philontropist and children’s advocate and supporter.
She had changed her travel plans to be part of this event and honor the attendee’s with a few of her songs out of the love she has for children. She sang some medleys and three of her own songs including her Golden Record “Bim Bam Bom”. The crowd showed their appreciation of her music and generous gesture with heartfelt applause.
