BTF & ATA-DC Fundraiser to support underprivileged girls education in Turkey, March 27

As a part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, BTF and ATA-DC are
jointly organizing a fundraiser to support education of underprivileged girls in
Turkey.

Funds raised at this event will support Medine Memi Memorial Fund that was
established by BTF in 2010 to honor the memory of 16-year old Medine Memi who
was buried alive in her family’s backyard by her father and grandfather
allegedly because she spoke with boys on the phone. Before she was murdered,
Medine approached the local state authorities and the police twice and asked for
protection but she was sent back home to her family each time. She never had a
third chance to ask for help. According to a report by KAMER 40% of the women in
Eastern and South Eastern Turkey who are victims of domestic violence have never
been schooled and about 20% went to primary school only. Clearly education
provides women with tools to protect and rescue themselves from domestic
violence. This year as we celebrate the international women’s day, we would like
to help many Medines out there who may be crying out for help by giving them a
chance to study at boarding schools.

Let us all together grab as many of those hands as possible and give them a
chance. Please join our fundraiser. Even if you cannot attend you can still make
a donation by check or email. Please see details below.

WHY GIRL’S EDUCATION?
