(Press Release) SPOTLIGHT ON TURKEY 2012 Workshop organized ATA NEVADA, World Affairs Council Las Vegas and Turkish Cultural Foundation on April 28th 2012, Saturday!
Second “Spotlight on Turkey” workshop took place at CSN (College of Southern Nevada) Charleston Campus on April 28th 2012, Saturday. Spotlight on Turkey is a program funded by the Turkish Cultural Foundation and organized nationwide in USA by the World Affairs Councils. ATA NV has been helping Las Vegas World Affairs Council on the program since last year.
ATA NV and WACLV have been coordinating to make this workshop interesting and educational since the Fall of 2011. It has been a marathon for both organizations to achieve the extraordinary day on April 28th. ATA Nevada volunteers have been working on the project tirelessly for months.
Spotlight on Turkey program aims to introduce the selected Las Vegas area middle and high school humanities teachers to the Turkish culture and modern Turkey.
At the end of the workshop, three of the teachers are chosen for the TCF Teacher Study Tour of Turkey. Through this program, teachers enhance their classroom curriculum while exploring Turkey. Upon their return, the teachers integrate their gained knowledge into their curricula and share their experiences with their local communities.
As of the summer of 2011 and since the program was initiated in 2007, TCF Study Tours have taken 348 American teachers to Turkey.
This year’s workshop included lectures, panel discussion, food, stations about carpets, trivia, music, language, arts and crafts. With the help and participation of the volunteer ATA Nevada members, we were able to create a friendly and casual environment. The volunteers went above and beyond to show the guest teachers Turkish hospitality.
We would like to thank Los Angeles Turkish Tourism and Cultural Attaché and Turkish Airlines Western Region office in Los Angeles for the promotional materials (brochures, promotional gift items, etc.) they provided for the workshop and also the following ATA Nevada volunteers for making the workshop an amazing experience.
