The Nazım Hikmet Poetry Festival is an annual celebration of poetry that brings together artists, the community, scholars and lovers of poetry. The one-day festival gathers in the humanistic spirit of internationally renowned poet Nazım Hikmet. Organized by the American Turkish Association of NC, hosted by the Town of Cary (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Dept.), the festival is sponsored by a grant from Turkish Cultural Foundation and the Duke University Center for International Studies.
The festival features an International Poetry Competition, which recieved over 500 poem submissions from 175 poets from North Carolina to Malta, and has selected ten finalists who will participate in a joint poetry reading. The festival will also host Dr. Mutlu Blasing Konuk of Brown University, the leading translator of Nazım’s poems into English. Renowned North Carolina poets will also hold readings at the festival.
