ANKARA, Turkey (AA) – Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu addresses reporters during a joint press conference with Luxembourgian counterpart Jean Asselborn.
Turkey on Monday harshly reacted to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump over PKK/YPG terrorist organizations in Syria and a possible Turkish military operation against those groups.
“Terror groups now control one-third of Syria and they aim to divide the country,” Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters in the capital Ankara.
In a Twitter post on Sunday, Trump threatened to “devastate Turkey economically if they hit Kurds”.
“Ankara is not afraid of U.S. President Trump’s threats,” Cavusoglu said during a joint news conference with Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn.
He said Trump was under immense pressure not to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria.
“We are not the enemy of Kurdish people,” Turkey’s top diplomat said.
